Disney Infinity powered by plastic Incredibles, Monsters, Pirates toys; launches in June
Disney Infinity will use plastic, real-life characters from Disney franchises to power a game based on Toy Story 3: The Video Game’s Toy Box mode. Think Skylanders with Disney characters, all thrown into a sandbox game. Disney Infinity is set to launch in June.
Disney Infinity will launch with 20 characters, initially based on Monsters University, The Incredibles and Pirates of the Caribbean. The starter pack comes with three characters: Sulley from Monsters University, Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates and Mr. Incredible from The Incredibles. Each franchise is its own world, called a Play Set, that can be combined with the Play Sets of other characters’ franchises.
Disney Infinity will also use “Power Discs,” physical items that players use with the Play Set base to unlock items and customization. There are two types of Power Discs: One is a circular coin stacked under the character to add buffs, and the other is hexagonal and provides items. One Power Disc, for example, unlocks an in-game rideable Dumbo. The Play Set base can fit two characters and one Power Disc.
The game supports up to four players online or two in split-screen. Avalanche Software is developing Disney Infinity for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, Wii U, 3DS, PC and mobile. The above reveal trailer offers the first glimpse of Disney’s new game, including cameos from Cars and Toy Story characters and The Nightmare Before Christmas’ Jack Skellington.
