After The Dust Settles: Looking back at Nintendo Direct 2026

Nintendo closed out the Summer Game Fest season in style with a June 2026 Nintendo Direct packed with major reveals for both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 owners. While fans were counting on Nintendo to deliver a few exciting surprises, the showcase still delivered several headline-making (and jaw-dropping!) announcements that could shape Nintendo’s lineup for the next few years.

The biggest moment of the presentation was undoubtedly the reveal of a full remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2. Rebuilt for modern hardware, the beloved Nintendo 64 classic appears set to introduce a new generation of players to one of gaming’s most influential adventures while giving longtime fans a reason to return to Hyrule.

Nintendo also unveiled Xenoblade Genesis, a brand-new entry in the popular RPG franchise. Although details remain limited, the announcement suggests Nintendo is continuing to invest heavily in large-scale role-playing experiences for Switch 2. The Direct further surprised viewers with the appearance of KINGDOM HEARTS IV, bringing another highly anticipated third-party title to Nintendo’s growing next-generation platform.

Beyond the blockbuster reveals, Nintendo showcased Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, an expanded take on the motion-controlled sports formula featuring a wide variety of activities. Updates for Pokémon Pokopia and new information on FromSoftware’s upcoming multiplayer project The Duskbloods helped round out a presentation that balanced first-party franchises with major third-party support.

Taken together, the June 2026 Nintendo Direct demonstrated that Nintendo is building a strong software pipeline for the second half of the year and beyond. With classic franchises returning, new worlds to explore, and several long-awaited projects finally reappearing, Switch 2 owners have plenty to look forward to in the months ahead.
