Nintendo has announced a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. So, you know, life complete.
For an entire generation of gamers, 1992’s The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past pushed the boundaries of the gaming experience. It was the greatest achievement Nintendo had for SNES, and for many of us who played it, it continues to define the console in our minds to this day.
News has come down that Nintendo have a new game in the works set in the same world as A Link to the Past — tentatively titled The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2 — and that it will be released on the Nintendo 3DS in time for the 2013 holiday season.
Here’s the announcement:
Nintendo Announces A Link to the Past 2
Same World, New Dimensions
Really just one new dimension: Depth.
Staying true to the look and feel of the original A Link to the Past, Nintendo will still make full use of the 3D display for which the 3DS is named, and you can see in the video as Link jumps from tier to tier that the world of A Link to the Past has been given new life thanks to the added dimensionality.
This will keep gamers thinking in more than one sphere, and where one of the innovations of the original A Link to the Past was how well it used the full space of the screen, A Link to the Past 2 seems set to break even that barrier and come right at the player.
In addition to this, Link will also have a power reserved for Phantom Ganon in the first game – his ability to turn into a painting on the wall. Nintendo says this will help players solve puzzles throughout and feature heavily in Link’s arsenal alongside returning items like the hammer and hookshot!
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2 is due out Holidays 2013! Stay tuned for more!
